The Economy and Your Ministry

I was just reading a post by Kent Shaffer over at churchrelevance.com titled 10 Theories on High Gas Prices and Church, and I was wondering if any of you have seen this affect any of your ministries.

Since our church is in a small town, I don't think there has been much affect on attendance due to the gas prices. I know many of you are involved in ministries in larger cities.

How have gas prices affected involvement in your ministries?

Gabe,

Good question. I suspect that in larger cities the impact will be larger than in small towns. I have spoken with people who have started attending our church who said that started attending because it would use less gas. Several people attended the main campus (which is a good 15-20 minute drive) but have decided to drive less and attend the satellite campus.
I think the idea of driving less to save gas is great, but is more psychologically driven than factually based. Perhaps for some there is a significant savings financially, but for most people I think they save a couple of dollars by driving to a different church and then before church they spend 5 dollars on a coffee and muffin. It all comes down to priorities.
And then there are the church members that will look for any excuse not to come to church.
